Hey. I’m Patrick O’Sullivan

I’m a registered architect (MAIBC). I live in North Vancouver. One-seventh is my site.

About the site

Why?

I’m interested in ideas. Particularly those ideas consistent with nature’s laws and methods, as elusive as understanding them may be.

Themes discussed here: behavioural economics, status, distraction, the pursuit of attention and approval, change and change resistance, and the evolution of culture. I’m interested in the real reasons behind what we do… in commerce, social relationships and personal “branding” — and the contrast between reality behind behaviour and the alibi explanations we tell ourselves and others.

Site organization

One-seventh is structured to accommodate variety and freedom in choice of voice and content. The discrete “columns” buy me some flexibility in degree of formality and seriousness of pieces.

Notes on site design

As pared down as possible, but not further. One-seventh also serves as an ongoing design exercise; organization of content and matching format to content are interesting challenges, especially when the content is also under frequent revision.

Typical INTJ. And I’ll have you know that I was awarded the “Best Hair” prize at my 20-year high school reunion.

Fault identification with the intent to improve matters comes naturally. I’m an analyser, deep thinker and more interested in the fine and macro scale and less interested in the medium scale.
